Thanks for the update.  Between Divekick moving from 5pm->3pm->4pm and signups ending in the morning, my schedule has gone from "Go to reunion in Denton then go to the tourney" to "Drive for an hour and a half in the morning to sign up and get back to Denton, go to part of a class reunion, then go to the tourney." D:

That certainly won't stop me though.

Edit: ahh, I worked out something a bit more convenient.  Will post results after I get schooled tomorrow!

So before I go into how it went, I should mention that 2 friends came along with me. One of them, Mathis, had never played Divekick and was playing based on a verbal description of how2markman and some casuals at the venue. The other (Gavisi) had purchased the game a week ago. We played a ton of lobbies in which I taught him how to play Markman in general and how to beat me when I was piloting each character. This is more useful for some characters than others, since I am awful at at least Sensei, Mr. N, Shoals, and Stream.

I got Gavisi in round 1 and lost 1-2. One contributing factor is that I kept doing thing slightly too early because I was adjusting from online. This messy timing went away as the tourney progressed, though. Mostly Gavisi just had solid reads, and it turns out that if you spend hours in lobbies telling someone what to do to beat you in every situation, and then they read you, they'll win.

So, onward to losers!

I had literally forgotten my round 1 losers match by the time I started writing down stuff about matches. People told me he was a Shoals and I won 2-0. Sounds reasonable

Round 2 losers was a shoals who was free. Many flyovers, 2-0, one fraud.

Round 3 losers was a Markman who liked to use kickbox a lot. Weird, huh? Normally I wouldn't be afraid of this, but he had done well against me in casuals before the event. I played a more offensive style to get him out of his comfort zone and took this 2-0. One fraud.

Round 4 losers was a Baz. Poor guy. After his Baz was a fraud, he switched to Markman, who was also a fraud.

At this point Gavisi lost to a Shoals, so Gavisi got knocked to losers and I got to play him again. I took it 2-1 by an okay margin. I remember thinking my Markman mirror might be better than my S-Kill vs. Markman here, because I hadn't given him hours of practice and completely dissected the plays, but I wasn't too confident so I ended up sticking to S-Kill.

Loser's semis pared me with a Mr. N who had been mercilessly stepping on Kungs and Shoalses. I was again concerned that I would need to switch to my Markman, since I recently lost a bunch of games to Fuzzmosis's Mr. N. S-Kill was fine, though. 2-0.

Loser's finals was with a Shoals main. He decided to pick Dive, saying that he had just lost to Dive. His Dive was a bit of a challenge, but I beat it. During the game, his friend came by and said such things as "Why Dive?? Shoals doesn't lose to S-Kill." He switched to his Shoals in game 2. Shoals was free. 2-0, etc.

In teh grand finals I faced a Dive main, but for some reason he always wanted dive gem. I'm pretty afraid of Dives in general, but this one didn't really have any hope of taking a single game. For the last game he switched to Baz. Baz was a fraud.

tl;dr: I won. I dropped 3 games in the whole event, all to a single player who came to the event with me.

Other potentially interesting stuff!
The $45 for first place covered the entry fees for the three of us exactly. Nice~
Kick, Redacted, Jefailey, Stream, and Kenny did not appear in the event at all.
S-Kill, Baz, and Sensei were each mained by only 1 player. Sensei and S-Kill were only played by 1 player, while Baz was played by 2.
The remaining (most popular??) characters are Mr. N, Kung Pao, Shoals, Dive, and Markman.

16 I think, dunno.

Edit: Wait, it has to be a bit more than 16 for the number of games I played to be right...

Hahaha

Congratulations on your win and hope you enjoy the event. The next divekick event is coming up in Dec 14 at Fort Worth. The entry fee will be cheaper than this one. I will post it up later. Sadly I couldn't go due to being busy :(
